We write Indonesia, we read Bali: is it possible to get there in 2022

In the last decade, Bali has been one of the top travel destinations for tourists from Russia, especially during the cold season. Paradise beaches, plenty of surf spots in the Indian Ocean, the sacred forest of monkeys and an abundance of fruits & nbsp; —  Isn't this a dream vacation? The coronavirus and the difficult political situation in the world impose many restrictions on the movement of people. Let's find out if it's possible to go to Bali in 2022.

Spoiler: yes, it's not easy, but it's real.

What you need to travel to Bali:

  1. Business visa. You can apply for it online here.

  2. Current certificate of full vaccination against COVID-19. Recently, Indonesia has been accepting tourists vaccinated by Sputnik V. The certificate is valid for a year. Children under 12 do not need a certificate.

  3. Negative PCR test taken no earlier than 48 hours before departure. Test results must be in English. The test is necessary for both adults and children of any age.

  4. Passport valid for at least 8 months from the date of entry into Indonesia

  5. A completed HAC form. You can fill it out in advance here.

  6. COVID-19 health insurance with at least $25,000 in coverage.

  7. Return ticket and accommodation confirmation.

According to official data, the five-day quarantine at the hotel for tourists has been canceled.

Flight tickets

The flight after February 2022 becomes the main difficulty for tourists. There are no direct flights, as, in fact, there were none before. But now it’s hard to get by with one transfer, since you need to fly through countries open to tourists from the Russian Federation. This greatly affects the cost of air tickets. There are flights with one transfer in Qatar, in this case, the cost of one-way tickets for one adult will be about a thousand euros. Information about the work of airlines is updated every day, presenting more and more surprises, so you can get up-to-date information on tickets only after deciding on the dates of the trip.

Cost of holidays

Important: to pay for goods and services in Bali, you will need the local currency —  rupees. You can exchange them for US dollars or Euros. In some hotels you can pay in dollars. Visa and MasterCard cards of Russian users will not work when paying. Therefore, the surest way not to be left without food and rest is & nbsp; bring cash in foreign currency.

The choice of accommodation in Bali is quite large: from cheap guesthouses to five-star hotels, cottages and villas. A guesthouse by the beach in Kuta can be rented for only $8 per person per night, a decent hotel in Ubud or Seminyak with breakfast and a pool will cost from $23 to $50, and a villa or cottage in Ubud or Nusa Dua will cost $70-100 . A little advice: if you come with your family, it is more profitable to rent an apartment or a villa than to stay in a hotel. If you are planning a budget vacation, you can find housing for $300-400 per month. We calculated: a ten-day vacation in Bali (flight from Moscow, inexpensive hotel, food) will cost about $800 per person. With reasonable savings, a month's stay will cost about $1200 per person (including sightseeing).

Season in Bali

The ideal time to visit Bali is from May to October: the rainy season ends, the air is not so humid anymore. July and August are great times for surfing. The low season runs from November to March, but the rainiest months are December, January and February. Of course, at this time, housing prices are lower, but if you are planning an active holiday, it is best to go during the high season. The water temperature is around 28-29 degrees Celsius all year round.

Things to do in Bali: top 3 activities

1) Dive into the life of the ocean

Bali is considered an ideal place for surfing: waves all year round, comfortable water temperature, numerous schools offering their services even to those who have never stood on the board. But, in addition to surfing, travelers can find many interesting entertainments: for example, you can walk along the seabed in a special spacesuit and feed the fish around you. Or go fishing – the Indian Ocean is home to tuna, barracuda and even the famous blue marlin.

2) Walk in the sacred monkey forest

The Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud is a biosphere reserve located in the village of Padangtegal. A square with a fountain, quiet alleys surrounded by tall trees, wooden bridges, ancient temples and stone sculptures depicting dragons and other mythical creatures – there is something to see in the sacred monkey forest. Children will especially like this place: there are Balinese long-tailed macaques that are not at all afraid of travelers. But be careful and just in case, do not take anything shiny with you: monkeys are still naughty.

3) Climb the volcano

Gunung Batur is located in the eastern part of the island, in the Kintamani region, and is considered an active volcano – despite the fact that the last significant eruption occurred in the year 2000. The ascent does not require preparation, however, independent ascent of Batur is prohibited – this can only be done as part of an excursion group or with a local guide. The way to the highest point (1717 m) takes two hours. The view from the observation deck is magnificent at dawn: the green slopes of the mountains Agung and Abang appear before the gaze of travelers (Agung is considered by the Balinese to be a sacred mountain, the abode of gods and ancestral spirits). However, even if you are not interested in legends, you can cook breakfast on steam emanating from the faults of the volcano, swim in the hot springs at its foot, visit the water temple at Lake Batur or a coffee plantation.
