The end of the crisis or the crisis without end? The Germans in Turkey admitted that the future of tourism is in the fog

“Is this the end of the crisis or a crisis without end?” – Over 4,000 representatives of European travel agencies were looking for an answer to this question at the rtk Group congress at the Cosmopolitan Nirvana luxury hotel in Antalya in early May. In total, more than 4,200 travel agencies from Germany, Austria, Belgium and France took part in it.

At the same time, the main “component” of this uncertainty, as Norbert Fiebig, president of the German Travel Association (DRV), has become the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, and more specifically, the economic consequences of European sanctions against Russia, such as inflation and recession in Europe. “We need to see the development of the economy and the resilience of households. Beware of the economic consequences of military conflicts,” he said.

German tourists are already proving a change in trend – if previously customers booked summer tours for six months, now this period has been reduced to only six weeks. That being said, for the most part, tour operators such as Ralf Schiller, FTI Group CEO, TUI Germany CEO Hubert Kluske, Bentour CEO Deniz Ugur, and rtk CEO Lars Helmreich, are calling for “analysis and common sense.” “The question of sustainability must be shaped and promoted by the industry, otherwise we can all face the rules that are being imposed on us from Berlin and Brussels,” said rtk CEO Thomas Bösl.
