A review of the Readly Magazine App, a subscription app that gives you access to over 3,300 digital magazine titles!
Gather all magazine lovers! There is a magazine app, so I would like to talk about it. I’m sure you’ll like it.
Before we begin, I need to confess about my addiction. I’m a magazine addict. Everyone has their vices, but mine is magazines.
For as long as I can remember, I have loved the glossy pages of magazines. It started with GirlTalk when I was about 6 years old. I moved on to Chatterbox and The Miz, and before I found out about Smash Hits and his J17, I was looking at pictures of puppies and kittens and weird stars in boy-his-bands.
I was too young to be 17, but my father promised to give me a magazine every time we went to the supermarket to do our weekly shopping. I took advantage of my father’s innocence and snuck the J17 into the trolley with the cover down. That way my father couldn’t read what functions were inside. I’m sure he would have just laughed at the mention of “hunky celebrities” and “healthy boys,” but this was my first glimpse of the teenage years that lay ahead.
As I was standing by the magazine racks in Sainsbury’s, thinking about which magazine I was going to buy that week, I felt a bit of excitement. Actually, I don’t think I helped my father with any shopping at all. I think it took him about 30 minutes to decide which magazine to bring home.
I flicked directly to the page in question, followed by an asterisk, pulled the poster out of the middle, and stuck it on my bedroom wall. My magazine choices are often dictated by the freebies inside, and I had an enviable collection of small nail polishes given away for free over the years.
My dad no longer buys magazines for me even though I “help” him shop for the weekly magazines, but I’m still totally addicted to them and still get the same thrill when I buy them. Magazines offer a glimpse into a world more fashionable, stylish and exciting than mine. Magazine writers are your ideal best friend, sharing their knowledge like a big sister.
I don’t read articles about grumpy celebrities anymore (although I still do occasionally) and my magazine range has expanded…and even more recently, so that’s what I’d like to talk about today.
^Women’s Health, Cosmo, HELLO! Fashion is always popular, but House of Coco and gargle are new!
I would like to introduce an app called Readly. This is essentially the Spotify of magazines. When you subscribe to the app (currently £7.99 per month) you get access to over 3,300 magazines. Yes, there are over 3,300 magazines!!
Of course, you don’t want to read everything, but with the Readly app, you’re sure to find something you want to read.
You also have access to the magazine’s back catalog, which is even more useful as you can scroll back and read old issues you missed. Over 70,000 issues available on the Readly app!
Another great perk when you subscribe to Readly is that you can use Readly on 5 devices. I currently have this book on my phone (for casual viewing) and iPad (for serious magazine reading). Sam has it on his phone and George has it on his Kindle for children’s magazines.
I’m not going to lie. £7.99 for an app subscription isn’t cheap, but if you’re like me, you’ll seriously get your money’s worth (plus more details about special offers below!)
When I first downloaded the app, I started reading my usual favorites. Magazines like:
- family traveler
- women’s health
- hello fashion
- Health & Fitness
- practical photographer
- Condé Nast Traveler
After devouring all of these, I started looking at different magazines. Where this app really shines is because it gives you the chance to read magazines you wouldn’t normally buy.
Some of my new favorites include
- House of Coco
- sainsbury’s magazine
- Vegan food and life
- 500 Co., Ltd
- trails wales
- travel and leisure
A great feature is the ability to search for terms. For example, let’s say you need to use butternut squash. If you search for butternut squash, you’ll see all the articles in tons of magazines so you can find recipes.
Or suppose you want to go to Paris. If you search for Paris, you’ll find lots of articles from different magazines.
↑Let’s liven up the Christmas mood with a festive magazine!
I miss not being able to crop photos and recipes, but I can just screenshot the pages I like and save them to my phone. You can also highlight pages within the app.
Another good thing is that you can download magazines and read them without Wi-Fi even when you are abroad. It also doesn’t use up much data if you’re using mobile data. Magazines don’t require a ton of storage space either, so you can pack up to 500 magazines into your phone before a long flight. Imagine carrying 500 magazines on a plane!
As you know, I love this app. If you like the sound of this, subscribe and get your first month for just 99p!
- Log in to 5 devices
- Access over 3,300 magazines
- Including old issues, the total is 70,000 issues
- £7.99 per month
