After more than two years of a break for the coronavirus pandemic, Sweden announced the complete lifting of the entry ban for Russian tourists. This means that from April 1, upon arrival in Sweden, the authorities will not require certificates of vaccinations and PCR tests for covid. The measure will apply to all travelers from third countries. The information became known from a decree of the Swedish government, quoted by the Swedish media.
By their order, the Swedish authorities have returned the opportunity for tourists to travel to Sweden as before, so if you have a Schengen visa and money for an air flight with transfers, then you can already go to Sweden.
“This also means that the requirement to present certificates of vaccination and testing upon entry into Sweden will be withdrawn,” the document noted.
“From April 1, 2022, COVID-19 will no longer be classified as a threat to public health and a danger to society,” the document also said. However, the authorities stressed that although the pandemic is not yet over, it has entered a new phase due to the large number of people vaccinated against the coronavirus and the milder strain of the coronavirus that currently dominates the country.
“ We have already lifted the ban on entering the EU. The government has now decided not to extend the ban on entry from third countries. This will make life much easier for everyone who has been unable to travel to Sweden in recent years due to the pandemic,” said Minister of Justice and Home Affairs Morgan Johansson.
Free travel to the country by tourists from third countries, including Russia, followed the lifting of all border bans for travelers from the European Union and the European Economic Area.
“As part of the ongoing work to phase out infection control measures against COVID-19 The government today decided to lift all restrictions on entry into Sweden from the Nordic countries and other EU and EEA countries,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice said in a joint press release.
The Swedish government, which has an unconventional view of the pandemic and has not practiced strict quarantine measures, announced on March 8 that it no longer classifies the coronavirus as a “general and socially dangerous” virus, despite the large number of cases recorded daily in its territory.
According to the WHO, more than 2.48 million cases of COVID-19 have been registered in Sweden since the beginning of the pandemic, and 18.189 people have died during the same period.
Sweden is not the first EU country to lift all of its entry restrictions for tourists around the world, regardless of their vaccination status.
